Eminent Journalist ABM Musa’s 95th birth anniv today

The 95th birth anniversary of eminent journalist and columnist ABM Musa will be observed today.
A founding member and life member of the National Press Club, ABM Musa was born in 1931 at his maternal grandfather’s home in Dharmapur village of Feni district, reports BSS.

He passed away on April 9, 2014 while undergoing treatment at Labaid hospital in the capital at the age of 83.
ABM Musa began his journalistic career in 1950 with the Daily Insaaf. In the same year, he joined the English daily Pakistan Observer. Until 1971, he served there as a reporter, sports reporter and news editor.

During the Language Movement in 1952, when the then Pakistan government shut down the Pakistan Observer, he joined the Daily Sangbad. And again, he returned to the Observer in 1954.

During the Liberation War in 1971, he reported from the battlefront as a correspondent for the BBC and The Sunday Times, among others.

After independence, he served as General Manager of Bangladesh Television and as editor of The Morning News.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the first national election of independent Bangladesh.

In 1978, ABM Musa joined the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok as Regional Director for the Asia-Pacific region.

Upon returning to the country, he served as Director General (DG) of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) from 1981 to 1985, and as a Managing Director (MD) and Chief Editor of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) from
1985 to 1987. In 2004, he also served for a brief period as editor of the Daily Jugantor.

The legendary journalist was indeed a prominent figure at the National Press Club, having been elected as its President four times and its General Secretary three times.

ABM Musa made contributions to various fields of journalism for 64 years.
