Budget FY 2026-27: NBR seeking opinions from businessmen

Business Report :

In view of the upcoming national budget for FY27, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken the initiative to amend, add and change various income tax-related laws and regulations.

For this purpose, written proposals and recommendations have been invited from business organizations, chambers and professional representatives of various sectors of the country.

According to NBR sources, the initial work of formulating the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 has already begun with the aim of making the tax system more up-to-date, transparent and participatory.

In the letter sent to various chambers of commerce, trade bodies and business associations, they have been asked to present logical explanations and analysis in favor of the new proposals.

Specific tables have also been attached to facilitate recommendations related to income tax, customs and VAT.

The letter has requested to send proposals and recommendations by March 15. It has been informed that opinions can also be sent via soft copy on a pen drive or directly via e-mail in addition to written proposals.
The budget for FY27 will be the first budget of the new BNP-led government.

As a result, those concerned believe that it will reflect the government’s economic philosophy, revenue policy and reform plan. At the same time, the government may have to face major challenges in increasing revenue collection, expanding the tax net and structural reforms in tax administration.

According to sources, if the budget is prepared taking into account the proposals of business organizations, it will be more participatory and realistic. On the one hand, this will speed up revenue collection, and on the other hand, it will also help increase the confidence of taxpayers.
