Staff Reporter :
Three days before the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, President of Nagorik Oikya, has announced his decision to withdraw from contesting in the Dhaka-18 constituency.
However, he will remain a candidate of Nagorik Oikya from the Bogura-2 constituency. He made the announcement around 11:45 pm on Sunday night through a post on his verified Facebook page.
Explaining the reason for withdrawing from the race, he said that he is unable to bear the high cost of the election.
In his Facebook post, he wrote that the election has become so expensive that it is not possible for him to carry on. In this context, he has decided to withdraw himself from the electoral contest in Dhaka-18.
He further wrote, “I am currently in Bogura. Under a special situation, I had decided to contest the parliamentary election from both Dhaka-18 and Bogura-2. Dhaka-18 is a very large constituency. It comprises seven and a half thanas and has around 650,000 voters.
The election is so costly that it is not possible for me to manage it. Therefore, I have decided to withdraw from the electoral race in Dhaka-18. This decision may cause disappointment to many, and I sincerely apologize to them.”
Mahmudur Rahman Manna is currently staying in Bogura. He will continue to contest the election from Bogura-2 as a candidate of Nagorik Oikya and has said that he will carry on his election campaign there.
