Ansar-VDP to play neutral, professional role in election security
National Desk :
A significant election preparatory assembly was held in Gazipur, organised by the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), with the aim of ensuring a free, fair, neutral and peaceful election ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendum 2026. The central theme of the gathering was to highlight the force’s firm commitment to safeguarding the democratic process through election-time security, professionalism and technology-driven management. The Director General of the force, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, attended as the chief guest. In addition to those present in Gazipur, Ansar-VDP members assigned to election duties in Narayanganj district joined the assembly via giant screen.
In his directive speech, the Director General emphasised the importance of the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality and discipline in carrying out election duties. He called upon all members to remain as steadfast as a mountain while on duty at polling centres and to collectively resist any form of disorder, irregularities, ballot box snatching, vote rigging or political influence.
He said, “The maximum use of modern technology, including the Election Security App, must be ensured to report any untoward incident immediately, so that patrol teams can reach the spot promptly and bring the situation under control.” He further stated that, among the 13 Ansar-VDP members assigned to each polling centre, two members would submit real-time reports directly through the Election Security App. Upazila Ansar and VDP officers will serve as responders, while a strong observer team from the district commandant level to Ansar-VDP Headquarters-will remain under constant supervision. He firmly noted that this system would leave no scope for creating disorder at polling centres to influence the election.
The Director General also said that only physically fit, trained and smart members had been selected for this election duty, considering the capacity required for long hours of service. He stressed, “Upholding the honour of the nation and the force, it is the foremost duty of all members to properly safeguard this sacred responsibility entrusted by the state and the mandate of the people.” He added that Ansar-VDP is not limited to election duties alone; rather, it is a large and promising volunteer force always ready to serve the state, making significant contributions to national needs through coordination with various ministries and government institutions. At the conclusion of the assembly, the Director General expressed hope that Ansar-VDP members would further strengthen public confidence in the democratic process by setting examples of professionalism, integrity and neutrality.
He voiced optimism that a free and peaceful election would be possible through united efforts and technology-based management. The preparatory assembly has reinforced election-time security arrangements and once again highlighted the importance of Ansar-VDP’s role in maintaining state stability, protecting democracy and ensuring law and order an impact that will establish the force as an even more reliable pillar in addressing any future national crisis.
