IAB ensured minority safety after Aug unrest Says Rezaul

Staff Reporter :

Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB), Charmonai Pir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, on Friday said his party had ensured the safety of minority communities across the country in the aftermath of the unrest on August 5.

He made the remarks while addressing an election rally of Islami Andolan Bangladesh at the open stage of Amtali Municipality in the Barguna-1 constituency. Referring to concerns over communal security following the unrest, Charmonai Pir reiterated that minority communities had remained safe under his party’s watch.

Reaching out to voters, he urged people to support Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s election symbol, the ‘hat pakha’. “Many have spoken of building a Golden Bangladesh, Green Bangladesh or Digital Bangladesh. Without such slogans, we will work to bring smiles to the faces of 18 crore people, Insha Allah,” he said.

Expressing optimism about the party’s electoral prospects in Barguna-1, Charmonai Pir said his confidence had grown after holding discussions with local residents as well as party leaders and activists.

He called on party workers to continue their campaign peacefully and warned against any attempt to create violence or disrupt the polling process.

Reiterating his party’s position on communal harmony, he assured minority communities—including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists—that Charmonai remains a safe place for them and that Islami Andolan is committed to protecting their rights and security.

Addressing the rally, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Barguna-1 candidate Maulana Mahmudul Hossain Waliullah said his goal was to serve the people rather than rule over them.

He pledged to focus on sustainable development in the district, with priority given to education, employment, healthcare, and addressing flood and river erosion challenges.

The rally was attended by senior Islami Andolan leaders, including Presidium members Professor Ashraf Ali Akon and Professor Mahbubur Rahman, as well as central assistant publicity and Dawah Secretary Maulana K.M. Shariatullah and other local leaders.
