Delhi’s servants hold no weight in BD’s politics: Asif Mahmud
Staff Reporter:
National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Sunday said “Delhi’s servants” carry no weight in Bangladesh’s political arena.
He made the remarks while talking to journalists after visiting the grave of July Uprising martyr Abu Sayed in Pirganj, Rangpur, responding to a question about the Jatiyo Party’s call for an election boycott and claims of an unfair electoral environment.
Asif said that all major political parties, including Jamaat, BNP and NCP, support voting “Yes” in the referendum. He added that whatever parties he described as “servants of Delhi” say or do has no impact on Bangladesh’s politics.
He further stated that the NCP has launched a nationwide march to build public support for reforms, which is why Rangpur was chosen as the starting point, along with a visit to Abu Sayed’s grave.
Although the NCP has fielded candidates in 30 constituencies, Asif said the party has appointed ambassadors in 270 constituencies to campaign for a “Yes” vote in the referendum. As a result, the party is carrying out election-related activities across all 300 constituencies.
On the issue of a level playing field, Asif alleged that attempts are underway to provide undue advantages to a particular political party. He referred to the killing of an upazila-level leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and said the party is closely monitoring the situation.
He warned that if there is any move to stage a conspiratorial election, the NCP will mobilize resistance.
