102 platoons of BGB to participate in 34 parliamentary constituencies

Feni Correspondent :

A plan has been taken to deploy 102 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in six districts under Comilla sector for the upcoming ’13th National Parliament Election and Referendum-2026′.

This large number of members will enter the electoral field between January 31 and February 1, 2026. Battalion commander, Lt. Col.  Mosharraf announced it at a press conference organized at the Feni Battalion (4 BGB) headquarters on Monday.

As per the instructions of the Election Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs, this security zone is being created focusing on the elections and referendum to be held on February 12, 2026. BGB members will serve as a ‘mobile striking force’ in 53 upazilas and 34 parliamentary constituencies of six districts under the Comilla sector – Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Lakshmipur and Feni.

Feni district has been given special importance in the security plan. BGB will perform security duties alone in the three upazilas bordering Feni without the support of the army or any other force.

In addition, this border guard force will work in coordination with the army in the remaining 41 upazilas, including 9 other bordering upazilas.

BGB members will be stationed in various temporary base camps with the support of the local administration and will be engaged in maintaining law and order.

At the press conference, BGB Commander Lt. Col. Mosharraf said that at this critical juncture of the country, BGB is determined to ensure the people exercise their right to vote and ensure a festive atmosphere in the elections and referendums. Strict action will be taken based on intelligence information to ensure that no vested interest group or evil force can disrupt the electoral environment. Along with election security, the success of the BGB’s operations at the border in the last three months was also highlighted.

From November 1, 2025 to January 25, 2026, about 984.6 million 9,140 taka worth of smuggled goods and narcotics were seized in raids in the 327.30 km border area of the Comilla sector.

Of this, 944.1 million taka worth of smuggled goods and 455.5 million taka worth of narcotics were seized. More than 1,800 cases have been filed in these incidents and 38 people have been arrested.

A recent example of the BGB’s vigilant stance to prevent criminals from escaping across the border was also presented at the press conference. On the night of January 13, 2026, the BGB arrested three absconding accused while they were fleeing to India through the border of Khadla BOP under the Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB).

The arrested are Md. Saidur Rahman (24), Shafiul Jannat Prakash Siam (19) and Nazim Joy (19) of Shaharia. They are the accused in the sensational Fahima Akhtar Akhi murder case of Burichang Police Station in Comilla district. After their arrest, they have been handed over to Burichang Police Station.

During the election period, round-the-clock surveillance will continue through 61 BOPs, 3 ICPs and 7 temporary camps of the BGB. The BGB is on high alert to prevent the infiltration of weapons, ammunition and drugs and to prevent any saboteur from entering the country.
