Slow pace of investigation against 3 police officers

An import and export trader in Sirajganj has been accused of embezzlement of 75 barrels of edible oil (palm oil).
Almost two and a half months have passed since the complaint was filed against 3 police officials, but there is no visible progress in the investigation. On the contrary, the district police is being accused of being shy in the investigation to save the accused.
The complainant, Sadiqul Islam, an oil trader in Chapainawabganj, told this reporter that on November 21, 2025, he bought 75 barrels of oil from Narayanganj for about Tk 23,25,000.
On the way, the police seized the truck in Solanga area of Sirajganj. After this incident, according to the order of the court, the police gave the 56 barrels of oil to the custody of another person.
Raiganj Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam Khan and Raiganj Police then OC Masood Rana and SI Feroz Hossain are on the list of complaints. After the incident the gunman of the Additional Superintendent of Police was removed but no action was taken against the rest. OC Masud Rana is currently working in Naogaon district after being transferred from Raiganj.
The victim businessman made two written complaints to the Superintendent of Police and the court. He also said that he has valid documents and video evidence of the oil. On the other hand, after the court heard the case on January 18 this year, the court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case. When asked Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Mahbubur Rahman, who is in charge of the investigation, refused to comment on the matter.
However, District Police Spokesperson Hafizul Islam claimed that the investigation is still ongoing. Locals complain that multiple syndicates of smuggling edible oil and fuel oil are active in Nalka, Dhopa Kandi, Panchila, Hatikumrul Mor, Bhuiya Gati and Chandaikona areas of Dhaka-Rangpur and Bogra Nagarbari highways, they have become reckless due to the silence of the administration On the other hand, Assistant Public Prosecutor Naseeruddin told the New Nation that the long process of trial allows criminals to get away. There has been a public question about how the products of a legitimate trader were shown in the seizure list of other cases,On the other hand, experts believe that if the oil theft case is properly investigated, the cat will come out.
