Flexible teaching methods essential in changing education system: KU VC

Khulna University (KU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim today said flexible and innovative teaching methods are essential in a rapidly changing education system driven by evolving student needs and growing use of technology.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the BELTA National Conference 2026, titled “Pedagogic Innovations for Reformation and Resilience,” held at Khulna University.
The conference was jointly organized by the university’s English Discipline and the Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA). The inaugural session took place at the Journalist Liaqat Ali Auditorium on the KU campus on Saturday, says BSS.
The Vice-Chancellor said pedagogical innovation is not confined to the use of modern technology alone, but also focuses on ensuring students’ active participation and developing practical language skills.
He added that resilience helps sustain educational activities even during challenging times.
He said Khulna University prioritizes quality, student-centered and research-based education, while its English Discipline continues efforts to connect theoretical knowledge with classroom practice to prepare students for real-life challenges.
University Treasurer Professor Dr Md Nurunnabi addressed the programme as a special guest, emphasising the role of teachers and researchers in developing time-relevant and innovative teaching practices.
He stressed the importance of research-based pedagogical innovation for educational reform and sustainability.
Professor Dr Abdur Rahman Shahin, head of the English Discipline, chaired the inaugural session, which was addressed by keynote speaker Professor Ahmed Bashir, president of BELTA and professor of the English Department at the University of Dhaka; Professor Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, KU; conference convenor Dr Md Mohib Ullah; and co-convenor Professor Md Samiul Haque.
After the inaugural session, Professor Dr Shaila Sultana, director of the BRAC Institute of Languages at BRAC University, presented a keynote session highlighting technology integration in education, student-centred teaching approaches, and the challenges and prospects of language education in a changing global context. English Discipline teachers Tushmit Meheruba Aka and Afsana Kabir Priti conducted the programme.
More than a hundred research papers were presented in four parallel sessions at the day-long conference. Around 300 teachers, researchers and students from various universities and educational institutions from home and abroad participated in the event.
