Dhaka Capitals pay tribute to late coach with win over Rajshahi Warriors

Dhaka Capitals produced a composed all-round performance to defeat Rajshahi Warriors by five wickets in the 3rd match of the Bangladesh Premier League in Sylhet, paying a heartfelt tribute to their late assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki.

Asked to bat first, Rajshahi Warriors posted a modest 132 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with a fluent 37 off 28 balls, while Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 24.

However, Rajshahi failed to build any substantial partnerships as Dhaka’s bowlers struck at regular intervals.
Imad Wasim was the standout performer with the ball, returning impressive figures of 3 for 16 in four overs.

He was well supported by Salman Mirza, Nasir Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin, who kept the scoring in check and restricted Rajshahi to a below-par total.

In reply, Dhaka Capitals chased down the target of 133 comfortably, reaching 134 for 5 in 18.5 overs. Abdullah Al Mamun anchored the innings with a crucial 45 off 39 balls, while Nasir Hossain and Shamim Hossain provided stability in the middle order.

Sabbir Rahman then finished the chase in style with an unbeaten 21 off just 10 deliveries, ensuring there were no late hiccups.

Earlier in the day, the Dhaka camp was engulfed in grief following the sudden passing of assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki, who collapsed during practice and later died of a heart attack.
The players took the field under emotional circumstances but showed remarkable professionalism and unity to secure a victory in his memory.
The win not only earned Dhaka Capitals two valuable points but also served as a fitting tribute to a coach who had dedicated decades of his life to Bangladesh cricket.
