Nat’l crises ‘staged dramas’ to divert public attention Fakhrul

Staff Reporter :

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday described the ongoing national crises as “staged dramas,” alleging they were deliberately created to mislead citizens who are primarily concerned about their right to vote.

“People don’t care about what a referendum or a charter means.
The real referendum will take place on election day,” Fakhrul said while addressing a views-exchange meeting at Daulatpur Girls High School ground in Jagannathpur union under Thakurgaon’s Sadar upazila.

He added, “We support all reforms that truly benefit the people, and any disagreements can be settled in parliament.”

The programme, organised by the local BNP unit, was part of the party’s campaign ahead of the upcoming national election.

Fakhrul said the government’s lack of public support has made it blind to people’s hardships. “That is why farmers are not getting fair prices for their crops,” he remarked.

Promising that a future BNP government would ensure fair prices for agricultural products, Fakhrul said his party would also introduce family cards to assist low-income families.

“I urge you all to vote for the Sheaf of Paddy,” he appealed, noting that this election might be his last due to his deteriorating health.

The BNP secretary general further said, “Genocide took place in 1971-and again in 2024. The only difference is that in 1971, West Pakistanis committed the atrocities, while this time, it was carried out by fascist rulers of our own country against our youth.”

Referring to Jamaat-e-Islami, Fakhrul asked voters to compare the roles of Jamaat and BNP before deciding between the sheaf of paddy and the scales.
During his speech, Fakhrul suddenly appeared weak and unsteady.

Witnesses said his voice trembled and he began shaking slightly. He then requested nearby leaders to help him sit down, saying he felt lightheaded. Moments later, he reassured the audience, “It’s nothing serious, I’m fine,” and continued his speech.

Thakurgaon district BNP general secretary Paigam Ali, finance secretary Shariful Islam, Sadar BNP president Abdul Hamid, and other party leaders and activists were present at the meeting, which was presided over by Jagannathpur Union BNP president Md. Tofazzal Hossain.
