Press conference on allegations of taking hostages and false statements from Daffodil students

Daffodil University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M.R. Kabir has alleged that Daffodil University students were taken hostage and forced to give false statements in the clash between students of two private universities in Savar.

He made this allegation at a press conference held at the conference room of Daffodil University on Tuesday (October 28) afternoon. At the press conference, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M.R. Kabir said that a 6-member investigation committee has been formed into the clash, which will submit a report within 7 working days. Legal action will be taken in the incident.

The Vice-Chancellor said that City University is trying to put all the responsibility on Daffodil by presenting the clash on Sunday night differently. More than a hundred Daffodil students were injured in the clash. Many are receiving treatment in hospitals with serious injuries. The Daffodil students are being singled out for guilt by recording and broadcasting the video of the planned attack on 11 Daffodil students that night. The real culprits will be identified in the report of the investigation committee. In addition, the University Grants Commission is also looking into the matter.

In response to a question regarding the harassment of journalists by Daffodil students, he said, “We could not control the students in the situation. He expressed regret for the hostile behavior towards journalists.” The Vice-Chancellor also said that considering the situation, academic activities have been suspended until October 31.

He commented that the City authorities have lied and propagated the media trial by torturing the hostage students in the case of theft of 1.5 crore taka from the accounts of City University, looting of weapons and attack orders. Also present at the press conference were – University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Masum Iqbal, Daffodil University’s Director of External Affairs Syed Mizanur Rahman and many others.

Incidentally, the Khagan area of ​​Savar turned into a battlefield after a clash that started on Sunday night over spitting. The clash between Daffodil and City University students continued throughout the night. More than 200 students from both sides were injured. Various establishments and transport, including the City University building, were set on fire and vandalized. Later, the City University authorities demanded justice and compensation for the incident.

In addition, legal action, including the formation of an investigation committee, is under process, said City University Proctor Professor Abu Zayed.
