Special Anti-Dengue Drive by NCC, Fines Imposed
Staff Correspondent :
In an effort to combat the spread of dengue, the Narayanganj City
Corporation (NCC) has launched a special anti-dengue drive. On
Tuesday (October 7), a large-scale mosquito eradication and cleanliness
campaign was conducted in Ward No. 14, covering areas including
Deovogh Lakshmi Narayan Akhra and DN Road Goailpara. The
operation aimed to identify dengue hotspots, destroy breeding grounds,
and raise public awareness across residential and commercial zones.
During the inspection, stagnant water containing Aedes mosquito larvae
was found in several locations. Officials immediately cautioned the
responsible parties, and a mobile court imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 on
the developer of the under-construction Chaudhury Complex for
negligence that contributed to mosquito breeding.
As part of the broader cleanliness drive, drains and sewers were cleared
of accumulated waste, and insecticides were applied to prevent further
mosquito proliferation. The city officials also engaged with local
residents to encourage active participation in maintaining hygiene. They
urged everyone to keep their homes, rooftops, and surrounding areas
free from stagnant water to reduce the risk of dengue transmission.
City Corporation authorities emphasized that collective effort is essential
to control dengue effectively. “This special drive aims to ensure that the
dengue situation remains under control and does not turn into an
epidemic,” said Mohammad Zakir Hossain, the Chief Executive Officer
of Narayanganj City Corporation.
He added, “Public participation is the key to successful dengue control.
With such a large population, it’s impossible to manage waste and
mosquito breeding without the cooperation of local residents. If each
household keeps its surroundings clean, the spread of dengue can be
significantly reduced. This campaign will continue across all wards.”
The operation was supervised by Md. Nazmul Huda, Senior Assistant
Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (Revenue Division) of the
District Commissioner’s Office, along with Idris Ali, Mosquito Control
Supervisor; Shyamoli Saha and Sakhawat Hossain Suman, Sanitary
Inspectors from the Health Department. Officials from the Department
of Environment and Md. Imran Hossain Jisan, the local ward secretary,
were also present during the drive.
