US renews warning on visa fraud, illegal entry

Diplomatic Correspondent :

The US government has once again sounded a tough warning against visa fraud and illegal immigration, stressing that violators will face life-long bans and criminal prosecution.

According to a statement on its social platform Facebook of the US Embassy Dhaka, the US government interagency efforts are being intensified to detect and dismantle fraudulent visa schemes, as well as networks that aid and harbor undocumented migrants. “Those who commit visa fraud will be banned from the United States for life,” the statement said. “A nation without borders is not a nation.”

The US government also reaffirmed that it would pursue criminal charges against both individuals and groups involved in visa fraud or the facilitation of illegal entry.

This is not the first time Washington has issued such warnings. In 2018, the Department of Justice announced that individuals convicted of immigration-related fraud would face not only deportation but permanent bars to entry. Two years later, the Department of Homeland Security pledged stronger collaboration with the State Department to root out fake visa mills and sham marriages used to obtain legal status.

In 2022, federal prosecutors pursued high-profile cases against recruiters accused of helping foreign nationals overstay student and work visas.

The renewed statements serve as a clear signal that fraudulent practices will not be tolerated and that the US intends to tighten border integrity through aggressive enforcement.
