Fazlur gets show-cause notice

Staff Reporter :

The BNP has issued a show cause notice to its leader Advocate Fazlur Rahman seeking an explanation from him within the next 24 hours why disciplinary actions shall not be taken for making continuous indecent remarks on the July-August mass uprising.

The letter obtained from the party sources said, “You (Fazlur Rahman) have been continuously making indecent and misleading remarks about the historic July-August mass uprising, and the comments you have made regarding the martyrs who sacrificed their lives are completely against the party’s ideals and the spirit of the mass uprising.

Your statements, directed against this glorious mass uprising and the movement to restore democracy, have generated strong public reaction. Many believe your remarks are a deliberate conspiracy aimed at tarnishing the party’s image. You have even made statements that hurt the religious sentiments of the people.”

The letter said, “During the July-August mass uprising, more than 450 BNP leaders and activists, along with around 1,500 students and members of the public, were martyred, and over 30,000 people were seriously injured. You are repeatedly insulting and dishonoring the heroic role of students and the public in this mass uprising for the restoration of democracy.”

It further said, “Therefore, you are instructed to submit a written explanation to the party’s central office at Naya Paltan within the next 24 hours, showing proper cause as to why organizational action should not be taken against you for such absurd and discipline-violating remarks.”

It may be noted that BNP Chairperson’s adviser Fazlur Rahman, on August 5 last year, blamed Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliate organizations for the fall of Sheikh Hasina. In his words, this was not an ordinary political event, but rather a well-planned conspiracy, whose main architect was the “dark force” Jamaat.
