Conspectus: BWDB appoints new Addl DG

Engineer Md. Rafius Sajjad joined the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) as Additional Director General (Planning, Design and Research) on August 18, 2025. Before assuming this position, he served as Chief Engineer (Pur), Central Region, Bapaubo, Dhaka.
He obtained a BSc in Civil Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology in 1991 and a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Water Resources Development from Italy. He joined the Bangladesh Water Development Board as an Assistant Engineer (PUR) in 1993, says a press release.

Throughout his career, he has successfully held various important positions within the Board, including Sub-Divisional Engineer, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer, and Chief Engineer. Notably, he was the Project Manager for the Asian Development Bank’s Loan Assistance and Promotion IMIP project, as well as responsible for the World Bank’s loan assistance promotion WAMIP project.

With over 32 years of service in the Water Development Board, he has effectively applied the knowledge gained from attending various seminars and training programs in Japan, China, Philippines, Indonesia, Turkey, Thailand, Italy, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands. Engineer Md. Rafius Sajjad was born in 1968 into a respectable Muslim family in the Comilla district. He is a Life Member of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and a Professional Engineer (PEng.).
