Kishoreganj swimmer wins English Channel

Nazmul Haque Himel , the son of Kishoreganj ‘s Nikli haor has made Bangladesh proud again by crossing the English Channel after 37 years.
Following the path of legendary swimmers Brojen Das, Abdul Malek and Mosharraf Hossain, Nazmul Haque Himel has shown a unique example of courage, dedication and indomitable willpower.
His family and the local people are proud of his milestone Crossing the English Channel is a thrilling experience for swimmers around the world.
It is difficult to get a slot to cross the channel. In addition to the cold water, jellyfish and natural hazards, crossing the channel is also expensive.
It took Nazmul 12 hours and 10 minutes to overcome all the obstacles and cover the 33.4 km long route. Nazmul’s family is excited about winning this channel between England and France. Nazmul was born in Mirhati village of Nikli haor . His father, Abul Hashem, was a national swimmer in the 1980s.
He is a former member of the National Swimming Federation and a coach of Nikli Swimming Club in Kishoreganj. Nazmul started swimming under the guidance of his father. Abul Hashem told the New Nation that “The boy had confidence. He showed it. For this, the boy had to work hard.
The temperature of the English Channel is 15 to 19 degrees Celsius. Since the temperature of the haor is high, Nazmul prepared himself for hours by putting ice in the drum at a minimum of 12 degrees Celsius. The entire family is emotional over Nazmul’s achievement.
