BNP now shielding mujibism, alleges NCP’s Nahid

NN Online:

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on Monday accused the BNP of transforming into a “protector of Mujibism,” aligning themselves with what he called a “fallen fascist regime.”

Speaking at a rally on Circuit House Road in Patuakhali, Nahid said, “BNP is now defending Mujibism, just like the previous government. They are entangled in corruption, extortion, and criminal activities—no different from those they once opposed.”

Reflecting on the July 2024 uprising, he said, “We didn’t just fight against Sheikh Hasina—we fought to eliminate extortion, terrorism, and corruption. We cannot unite with forces who block the path to a new, just Bangladesh.”

Nahid warned of internal threats, saying, “Once we believed our enemies were abroad. Now we see they’re among us. There are efforts to divide us so we can’t unify. But with the people’s support, we will resist these conspiracies.”

Reiterating his criticism of BNP, Nahid said, “One party looted in the past, and now another follows suit. We rose against fascism once—we won’t let it return under a new guise.”

He declared that the NCP would compel the government to accept the “July Charter” by August 3.

The rally was attended by key NCP leaders including Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam, Joint Secretary Momtaz Sarwar Niva, Joint Convener Mujahidul Islam Shaheen, Joint Member Secretaries Zahirul Islam Musa, Mushfiqur Rahman Johan, Tamim Ahmed, Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, and Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin.

Earlier, NCP leaders and activists held a protest march through major streets in Patuakhali, concluding at the rally venue.
