July Memorial Museum set for inauguration on August 5

NN Online:

The long-anticipated July Memorial Museum is slated to be inaugurated on August 5, with construction work nearing completion.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki confirmed the inauguration date during a press briefing at Ganabhaban today. “Preparations are progressing accordingly. The museum will be inaugurated on August 5, though it will open to the public at a later date,” he said.

The briefing was also attended by Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

Farooki stated that the museum is designed to allow visitors to grasp the significance of the July Revolution and reflect on what he described as the oppressive rule of the Awami League and the resulting mass uprising. “Although the courts will try Sheikh Hasina and her associates, our goal is for visitors to evaluate her actions with their own conscience,” he added.

He further announced that a legal framework would be established to govern and preserve the museum.

According to official sources, the museum will feature photographs, personal belongings of martyrs, letters, historical documents, newspaper clippings, audiovisual materials, and reconstructions related to the July uprising. A special exhibit will depict the dramatic escape of Sheikh Hasina, who has been accused of orchestrating mass killings.

The July Memorial Museum will function as a part of the Bangladesh National Museum.
