NN Online:
A tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Pabna highway claimed three lives and left at least 10 others injured early Friday morning (July 4) in Pabna’s Santhia upazila.

The accident occurred around 5:30 am in the Boholpur area near Bongram Bazar under Ataikula Police Station.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Monsur Ali (40), son of late Iyad Ali from Kalidorpara village in Santhia’s Ataikula, and Abed Ali (38), son of late Hashem Mollah from Shantipur village in Sujanagar upazila. The third victim’s identity remains unknown.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, the ‘Pabna Express’ bus was returning from Narayanganj to Pabna when the driver, allegedly drowsy, lost control and collided head-on with a stone-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. Two passengers died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

The injured were rushed to Pabna General Hospital. Of them, three in critical condition were later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Mostafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Madhpur Highway Police, said, “Initial findings suggest the bus driver was drowsy, causing the collision. The truck was in its proper lane. All three victims were seated at the front of the bus.”

He further added that both drivers and their assistants went missing following the accident, and efforts are underway to locate them.
