Yunus urges transformation of July into a month of mass awakening and unity
NN Online:
Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, has called on the nation to transform July into a month of mass awakening and unity, in honor of last year’s historic July uprising.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (1 July) while inaugurating a month-long commemorative programme at his Tejgaon office in Dhaka. The initiative aims to remember and renew the spirit of the movement that saw people from all walks of life — including students, workers, rickshaw pullers, and youth — rise up and sacrifice for democratic ideals.
“Through these programmes, we will revive the memory of a symbolic day from last year, carrying its essence through July and August,” Yunus said. “We will renew our commitment to the goals for which so many were martyred or injured.”
He underscored the importance of making the commemoration an annual observance to ensure that dictatorship or authoritarianism can never take root again in the country.
Expressing optimism about the programme’s impact, Dr Yunus said the revival of the July-August spirit would reawaken the people’s will and solidify national unity in a way that is both comprehensive and unbreakable.
