67 illegal crushers mills electricity cut of in Jaflong

Following the instructions of the advisors of the interim government, the administration’s continuous campaign against illegal stone crushing crusher machines in different areas of Sylhet is continuing. As part of this, the task force disconnected the electricity connections of 67 illegal crusher mills in Jaflong area of Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet on Wednesday (June 18) and seized the meters.
The drive, which lasted from 11 am to 5 pm, was led by Gowainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Ratan Kumar Adhikari. The drive was supported by the Department of Environment, Power Division, Police, BGB and Forest Division.
Inspector Mamunur Rashid of the Department of Environment, Engineer Sajal Chakladar of PDB, OC of Gowainghat Police Station Sarkar Md. Tofail Ahmed, Camp Commander of Sangram BOP Shahidul Islam and Range Officer of Forest Division Md. Biplob Hossain participated in the drive.
UNO Ratan Kumar Adhikari said, ‘The administration’s drive against illegal establishments and environmentally destructive activities will continue. No one will be spared if the law is violated.’
Earlier, on Monday, the power connection of 30 crusher machines in Dhopagul area and 5 in Jaintapur was disconnected. On Tuesday, the meters of 33 crusher machines in Dhopagul were seized and the power connection was disconnected.
Regarding this, on Saturday (June 14), the interim government’s Environmental Crisis Area (ECA) was visited by Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Energy Advisor Fawzul Kabir Khan.
At that time, the Energy Advisor said, ‘Stone extraction is prohibited, so where are the stones coming from in these crushers? If they are imported, they have a specific destination.’ After that, he ordered the power connection to the illegal crushers to be disconnected.
When local workers protested against the advisors’ statements and blocked their cars, the situation was brought under control at one point with the intervention of the police.
