Govt awaits court ruling on swearing-in of DSCC Mayor-elect Ishraque Hossain
NN Online:
The Local Government Division has announced that it is awaiting a court ruling before proceeding with the swearing-in of Ishraque Hossain as Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), in light of ongoing legal proceedings.
In a media statement released on Tuesday, the division’s Legal Wing noted that preparations for the oath-taking had begun following the High Court’s dismissal of a writ petition on 22 May.
However, on 25 May, Ishraque Hossain filed a fresh writ petition at the High Court through his lawyer, requesting permission to take the oath. The next day, on 26 May, a separate leave-to-appeal petition was submitted to the Appellate Division on behalf of a citizen, challenging the High Court’s earlier dismissal order.
Given these developments, the matter is now under judicial consideration by the Supreme Court, the statement added.
Consequently, the Local Government Division clarified that it will wait for the court’s decision before moving forward with Ishraque Hossain’s swearing-in as DSCC mayor.
