Hasnat demands government ban AL within an hour

Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has issued a one-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding that the Awami League be banned as a political party.

Addressing a large public gathering at Shahbagh in Dhaka around 7:30pm on Saturday, Hasnat said, “To the interim government: ban the Awami League. You have one hour.”

He warned that if no announcement is made within the hour, his supporters would seize control of the area stretching from the InterContinental Dhaka hotel to Banglamotor.

“We will not back down,” he added. “We will not leave the streets until the Awami League is banned. Even tougher programmes will follow.”
