School admission quota for families of July martyrs, injured scrapped
NN Online:
The Ministry of Education has abolished the 5 per cent quota for the family members of martyrs and those injured in the July mass uprisings, previously allocated for admission to government secondary schools.
However, the ministry has decided to reserve one additional seat per class for these children, in addition to the seats allocated through the lottery system in government schools.
Canceling the previous order, the ministry issued a new order on Monday signed by the Ministry’s Deputy Secretary (Secondary-1) Rahima Akter.
The new order states that, for the children of the injured and martyrs of the July 2024 uprising, one additional seat per class will be reserved, beyond the number of seats allocated for the lottery system in government schools.
It specifies that families must submit relevant documentation, including certified copies of official records, with the admission application, and show the original copies during the admission process.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs must properly verify the relevant gazette for martyrs before the admission is finalised. If the family members of those injured or martyred in the July uprising are unavailable, the seats will be filled from the merit list, and under no circumstances will the seats remain vacant.
On March 2, the ministry had announced that, as per the order issued on February 20, 2025, a 5 quota would be reserved for the children of those injured or killed in the July-August 2024 uprising, similar to the freedom fighter quota for government school admissions.
