Bhairab stray dogs bite 45 people

At least 45 people, including women and children, were bitten by stray dogs in different areas of Bhairab town within a single day.
Two victims in critical condition have been transferred to Mohakhali Infectious Diseases Hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment. The attacks occurred between 3 PM and 8 PM on Monday.
Confirming the incident, Dr. Saiful Islam, Civil Surgeon of Kishoreganj, stated that the injured received treatment and anti-rabies vaccines at Bhairab 100-bed Government Hospital and various private clinics.
The victims include: Amlapara: Abdur Rahman (11), Asma (48), Jannat (5), Sahera (80), Yamin (12), Ishan (14), Hussain (6), Bhairabpur: Shahar Begum (50), Ramshankarpur: Narayan Chandra (45), Other areas: Majeda (42), Deep (11), Fariha Islam (7), Mousumi (9), Abdur Rahman (6), Tanzina (10), Rafia (27), Ratul (20), Marufa (17), Rajan (17), Iti (25), Aleya (4), Gaffar (4.5), Roy (12), Sweety (16), Sakhina (30), Rabia (13), Farida Begum (55), Bachchu Mia (50), Ayesha (35), Adil (3), Riyad (10), Muntaha (27).
Locals reported that the attacks began in Ramshankarpur, Kalipur at 3 PM and continued until 9 PM, spreading to Chandibar, Gachtalaghat, Bhairabpur, and Bhairab Government Hospital area.
Dr. Bulbul Ahmed, Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer (UHFPO), Bhairab, said, “a total of 33 people were treated at the hospital for dog bites on Monday. Two of them have been sent to Dhaka for further care. If the dog responsible for the attacks can be identified, we will determine whether it has rabies. If confirmed, immediate vaccination will be necessary.”
He also noted that a similar incident occurred 15 days ago, when several people were bitten by stray dogs over two days.
Shabnam Sharmin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Bhairab, described the situation as alarming, stating:
“We are investigating the matter. If the hospital confirms the dog had rabies, we will take swift action to identify and address the issue.”
