Schoolgirl killed after gang rape, body recovered from Hatirjheel

Dakkhinkhan police have recovered the body of a schoolgirl, who was killed after gang rape, from Hatirjheel lake in the capital.

Police however, arrested two youths-Rabin and Rabbi-in connection with the case. Rabin is a driver by profession.

During questioning, the two youths told the police that they had invited the girl to a flat in Mohakhali in the capital.

Later, Rabin and four others gang raped her after tying her hands and legs, and subsequently killed her.

The victim, a class VIII student and resident of Dakkhinkhan, had left her home to buy something on January 16.

Deputy Police Commissioner of Uttara Division, Rawnak Jahan, disclosed these details at a press briefing held at the DMP media centre on Monday.

The victim’s father lodged a general diary on January 19 and later filed a formal case on January 27. On January 30, police arrested Rabin, and based on his statement, they also arrested Mridha, another associate of Rabin.

Both Rabin and Mridha confessed to their involvement in the rape during initial questioning. They later placed the victim’s body in a sack and dumped it in Hatirjheel Lake.

They also informed the police that they had been introduced to the girl through social media. Based on this information, a police team recovered the body from the lake on Sunday (February 2).
