Files burnt in Secretariat linked to Hasina aides: Rizvi
Staff Reporter :
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that the fire at the Bangladesh Secretariat was a deliberate act to destroy corruption-related documents.
Speaking in Rangpur, Rizvi claimed files detailing the money laundering activities of a former cabinet secretary from Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League regime were among those destroyed.
He accused the government of orchestrating the fire to cover up corruption, including allegations that Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy laundered $350 billion to the USA, now under investigation by US intelligence.
The BNP leader further alleged that the fire was part of a larger conspiracy to protect corrupt officials and accused India of supporting Sheikh Hasina’s reinstatement despite widespread discontent. He criticized India for creating a false narrative about minority oppression in Bangladesh to shield Sheikh Hasina’s alleged corruption.
Rizvi praised firefighter Swanur Zaman Nayan, who died combating the fire, as a hero. He called on the interim government to provide a job for Nayan’s sister within a month, promising BNP’s assistance if the government fails to act.
Local BNP leaders also attended the event, demanding justice and support for Nayan’s family.
