IHRC condemns fake lawsuit against its official

Staff Reporter :

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), the world famous human rights organization, strongly condemns and protests the false and harassment-based lawsuit filed against Enamul Haque Bhuiyan (Dhanu), the Publicity and Publication Secretary of the National Board of IHRC, Bangladesh.

The case was filed with the Feni District Court recently.
Enamul Haque Bhuiyan, an environmental activist and a prominent human rights advocate from Feni, has been targeted by political adversaries.

The lawsuit was lodged by Mubarak Uddin Mahmud Saju, a former Union Parishad Chairman and an influential leader of the fallen Awami League in Fulgazi, Feni. This lawsuit is considered as a politically motivated action.

In 2023, during the BNP’s one-point movement, Bhuiyan (Dhanu), known for his tireless work in promoting democracy, human rights, and voting rights, was unjustly detained by the RAB. He was imprisoned for over a month in Keraniganj Central Jail. This case is still ongoing in the Magistrate Court of Dhaka.

In addition to the lawsuit, false general diaries (GDs) were also filed against Bhuiyan with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He has been facing repeated threats, assaults, and cases filed against him for his involvement in democratic politics, especially after BNP’s call for democratic reforms.

Enamul Haque Bhuiyan has been an active political figure since 1991 and was working with the Dainik Dinkal and carrying out significant responsibilities in the BNP’s central office until the 2007 national emergency (One-Eleven).

He has consistently advocated for the rights of marginalized and disenfranchised people, both in the streets and online.

The IHRC also highlights Bhuiyan’s participation in significant political campaigns, including the 2018 National Parliamentary Elections, where he worked as a key media coordinator for Feni-1 candidate Rofiqul Alam Majnu.

Additionally, he played a vital role as the coordinator for BNP in Feni’s regional areas like Chhagalnaya, Fulgazi, and Parshuram. In the recent Dhaka North Mayor elections, Bhuiyan served as a media coordinator for BNP candidate Tabith Awal. Despite enduring political suppression, including being detained for 24 hours by the police, Bhuiyan continues his activism for human rights and democratic principles.
