Chief Justice proposes judicial secretariat
Court Correspondent :
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed proposed the establishment of a separate secretariat for the judiciary to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Sunday.
The Supreme Court administration issued a press release stating that the Chief Justice had previously made this proposal during his speech on September 21.
In that address, he spoke to judges, lawyers, and judicial officials from across the country at the Inner Garden of the Supreme Court.
In his speech, the Chief Justice announced a “zero tolerance” policy against corruption in the judiciary and emphasized the need to create a roadmap for restoring public confidence through transparency and integrity in the judicial process.
He stated, “The objective of an equitable judiciary is to protect the people, society, and the state by ensuring impartial resolution of disputes in a timely manner and at a low cost.”
He highlighted the importance of separating the judiciary from the executive and legislative branches to achieve true independence.
Chief Justice Refaat Ahmed stressed the urgent need for a separate secretariat under the Supreme Court, calling it the first step toward judicial reform.
He indicated that once established, one of the key tasks of the judicial secretariat would be to ensure the appointment of judges based on merit, honesty, and efficiency, rather than personal preferences.
He also noted that ensuring the financial independence of the judiciary is essential for its autonomy.
