More than 140 illegal structures including double-storied houses have been evicted in the Green City area housing the Rooppur nuclear project. This joint operation was conducted from Tuesday (July 16) morning in the housing green city area of the Ruppur project, next to the road of the Roads and Public Paths Department.
It is known that to ensure the safety of the under construction Rooppur nuclear project, a plan was taken long ago to evacuate these illegally constructed structures on the land of the Roads and Highways Department. Locals have been conducting business for a long time by building houses and shops in these illegal structures. Even then, if the structure was not removed, the upazila administration, police department, road and highway department and the army started a joint operation from last July 13. On that day, a total of 127 illegally occupied structures including shops, hotels and restaurants on both sides of the road were evicted.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Subir Kumar Das said that the road and highway department’s land was illegally occupied and shops were constructed along with hotels and restaurants. To ensure the overall safety of the Rooppur nuclear power project, 127 buildings were evacuated on July 13 and today more than 140 structures including two-storied houses were evacuated. Repeated notices and miking are issued to remove illegal installations. But as the occupiers are not heeding, the establishment is being evacuated by raids and the raids will continue, he said.
