Ramgarh Land Port ready for immigration

Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury said that Ramgarh Land Port is ready to start immigration or passenger crossing operations. Immigration can be started only when the governments of the two countries want. However, it will take another 1 year to start import-export operations. He said that the work of Baroyarhat-Heyako-Ramgarh land port connection road from Dhaka-Chattogram highway is going on. Indian contractors are working on the construction of the road. This road is scheduled to be completed in June 2025. On the other hand, the necessary infrastructure work of Ramgarh land port is also underway. It will take a few more years to complete this work. The import-export activities can be started only after the completion of the infrastructure work of the connecting road and the port.
On Friday (12 July), the Chairman of Bangladesh Land Port Authority gave this information in response to the questions of journalists who came to see the progress of the construction work of Ramgarh Land Port. He said, “There were some problems in acquiring new land. I had a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Khagrachari on Thursday. The acquisition will be completed immediately. In response to the question of how profitable the Ramgarh land port will be for the country, he said, “The main purpose of the land port here is to benefit both countries through the two countries.”
Ramgarh Land Port Project Director (Joint Secretary) Md. Sarwar Alam, the traveling companion of the Chairman of Land Port Authority, said that the construction work of the immigration building and other necessary buildings of the port is going on fast after filling the soil in the newly acquired area. The target is to complete the work in June next year. But it may take 2-3 months more. Construction of the retaining wall across the river will also begin soon. He also said that the Chairman of the Land Port Authority of India has said that immigration or passenger crossing will be launched in the month of August. Ramgarh land port is ready to open immigration anytime. It can be launched only after both sides finalize the decision. In response to a question from the journalists, he said that since the work on the Sabram part was not completed, it could not be launched even after the names of the possible months for the immigration launch were repeatedly announced from 2022.
Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury visited Ramgarh Land Port for the first time on Friday (July 12) after being appointed as Chairman of Land Port Authority on June 8 last year. Apart from monitoring the ongoing construction work of the land port, he also visited International Passenger Terminal Building, BGB ICP Building, Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge. Ramgarh Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mamata Afrin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Israt Jahan Tuhin, 43 BGB Assistant Director Raju Ahmed, Police Station Officer-in-Charge Debpriya Das, Ramgarh Land Port Immigration In-charge Md Monir Hossain, Port In-charge Md Aman Ullah were present.
