BD hopes for huge Chinese investments
Staff Reporter :
For the first time, a Bangladesh-China steel business summit is set to take place in Dhaka this Friday, aiming to attract significant Chinese investment in Bangladesh’s steel sector.
Business leaders are optimistic about the potential for substantial Chinese investment.
The two-day summit, organized at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka, will focus on the steel sector’s potentials in Bangladesh.
About 50 Chinese businessmen in this sector are expected to participate.
The event will kick off on Friday morning and continue until 6 PM.
On the second and closing day of the event, Mahbubul Alam, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen will be in attendance.
The day will conclude with a cultural event and dinner party. Numerous meetings between businesses from both countries are scheduled to take place during the summit.
Steel sector entrepreneurs believe that this initiative, organized ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to China, is highly significant.
The Bangladesh Iron and Steel Importers Association and the China Steel Imports and Exports Association are jointly organizing the summit.
Bangladeshi steel businessmen are hopeful that major Chinese businesses will invest substantial amounts in the sector through this summit.
Abu Jar Gifari Jewel, President of the Bangladesh Iron and Steel Importers Association, and Alhaj Nasir Ullah have worked diligently to ensure the summit’s success.
Gend Bo, President of the China Alliance Exporters and Importers, responded positively to the invitation from Abu Jar Gifari Jewel and agreed to participate in organizing the event jointly.
“This is the first time such a steel business summit will be held in Dhaka with Chinese businesses.
More than four hundred businessmen, entrepreneurs, and investors will participate in the summit,” said Abu Jar Gifari Jewel.
He also expressed confidence that Chinese investors would be eager to invest more in Bangladesh’s steel sector.
“Steel is a crucial component for constructing any type of installation or infrastructure.
This summit will increase the number of joint investments in this sector in our country,” said Abu Jar Gifari Jewel.
He emphasized the importance of steel, noting that nearly all steel is currently imported from China.
“In these circumstances, if Chinese investors decide to invest in this sector here, it will greatly benefit our national economy,” he added.
He also highlighted that substantial employment opportunities would be created through Chinese investment in the steel sector.
