Shoriful reaches Lanka to play in LPL

Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam reached Sri Lanka on Wednesday to play for Kandy Falcons in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) Cricket. Shoriful have gotten chance to play in the LPL as the alternative of Pakistani pacer Mohammad Ali Khan. Last year Shoriful Islam shone with the cherry for Colombo Strikers in LPL.
Shoriful did not get any team in the players’ draft of LPL, which was held recently. But in absence of Mohammad Ali Khan, Shorigul Islam got opportunity to play in the LPL. Shoriful Islam was invited on Tuesday last by Kandy Falcons to play for LPL. Shoriful gave response and then he went to Lanka.
Shoriful Islam had consistent performance in the white-ball competitions. But later, he got injury in the warm-up match against India before the T20 World Cup 2024. Thus, Shoriful could not play for Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024. The left-arm pacer had to stay at the dugout during the matches of Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024. But most of the cricket lovers of Bangladesh were eagerly expecting to watch the performance of Shoriful Islam in T20 World Cup 2024. However, Shoriful Islam has gotten a golden opportunity to shine with the cherry in the international cricket as he will play for Kandy Falcons in LPL.
Before leaving the country for Lanka, the promising left-arm pacer said to a local website at the Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday, ” I am busy at the airport to finish my process of immigration. I got a chance to play in LPL, I shall try to execute the opportunity. Please keep me in your prayers.”
The fifth edition of LPL started from July 1. A good number of Bangladeshi got chance to play in the ongoing LPL. Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman and prolific batter Towhid Hridoy are playing for Dambulla Sixers, while Vice-Captain of Bangladesh National Cricket team and right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed is playing for Colombo Strikers. Shoriful’s Kandy Falcons played two matches. They won one match and lost to their opponent team in one match. Thus, Kandy Falcons earned two points from two matches. They took the third spot in the points table of LPL 2024.
The LPL will come to an end on July 21.
The Global T20 League in Canada will begin on July 25. Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Shoriful Islam will play for Bangla Tigers Missisagua in that tournament. Promising all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin will play for Montreal Tigers, while leg-spinner Rishad Hossain will play for Toronto Nationals. The competition will be concluded on August 11.
Shakib Al Hasan will take part in Major League Cricket (MLC) from July 5 to July 29. He will play for Los Angeles Knight Riders.
