Six endangered hilly Moyna bird were recovered while being smuggled from Khagrachhari to plains district in the country. On Friday (June 28), the forest department rescued these endangered birds from Khagrachhari bus station area. Khagrachhari Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Md. Farid Mia confirmed the matter.
The forest official said, “A gang was smuggling endangered hill moynas from Khagrachhari to Feni.” Based on secret information, we conducted a raid and recovered 6 endangered Hill Moynabirds from a passenger bus going to Feni. Sensing the presence of the forest department, the criminals fled. The hilly Moyna birds have been recovered and brought to the office of the divisional forest officer. He said that the recovered Moynas will be released in the forest.
Farid Mia also said, “The forest department is working to prevent any wildlife trafficking, including hill moyna.” In the last 4 years, the Khagrachhari Forest Department has rescued and released almost all the endangered wild animals including Lajjavati monkey, gyal, forest cat, Maya deer, Takshak, 31 hilly moyna.
