Ishwardi observes Environment Day

The World Environment Day is celebrated with the slogan ‘I will restore land, prevent desertification, achieve drought tolerance’.

On Wednesday (May 5) morning, Pabna Science and Technology University and Rooppur nuclear power project implementer, the Russian state-owned organization Rosatom organized an awareness procession around the university premises. Later, a seminar was held in the auditorium of the Department of Geography and Environment focusing on greening and use of renewable energy to protect the environment.

Chairman of Geography and Environment Department of Pabiprobi Rahidul Islam Rahi was the chief guest in the seminar. Hafiza Khatun.

The keynote was presented by Zakir Hossain Khan, international climate finance and environmental policy expert and CEO of Change Initiative. Treasurer of University was the special guest Professor Dr. K. M. Salah Uddin
Main speaker was Jahangirnagar University Geography and Environment Department Professor Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Alam.

Speakers at the seminar urged to reduce the use of fossil fuels and use renewable energy to prevent adverse effects of global warming and climate. At the same time, he emphasized on the use of organic fertilizers in daily agriculture and the use of environmentally friendly products instead of plastic and polythene products.Besides, he urged to build movement at individual and social level for plantation and greening. Pabiprabi teachers and students and Rosatom officials participated in the event.
