Gary Kirsten, the former South African batsman and coach, has been appointed as the head coach for Pakistan’s men’s cricket team in limited-overs formats, leading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Meanwhile, former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has taken over as the head coach for Pakistan’s Test cricket team.
Azhar Mahmood has also been confirmed as an assistant coach across all formats. The three appointments have been made for a two-year period following a recruitment process.
The announcement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in Lahore follows a period of significant upheaval within the organization.
The PCB has undergone substantial changes in its coaching staff, team captains, and management following Pakistan’s disappointing finish in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The team placed fifth, falling short of the semifinals.
