71 varsities join prog contest at JU

The National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC)-2023 began at Jahangirnagar University on Friday.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized the two-day competition, which drew 600 students in 200 teams from 71 public and private universities across the nation. The contestants were selected through an online competition from among 1,100 teams, reports media.

JU Vice Chancellor Md Nurul Alam inaugurated the competition. After the opening ceremony, the rehearsal competition was held at the CSE department. The main competition will be held on Saturday, and the top ten winning teams will be awarded prize money and crests in the evening. Besides, trophies will be awarded to the first, second, and third place teams.

In the opening ceremony, Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Physics Prof Farid Ahmed, CSE Department Chairman Prof Dr Md Golam Moazzem, Prof Dr Jugal Krishna Das, Prof Dr Mohammad Zahidur Rahman, Assistant Professor Mohammad Ashraful Islam were present, among others.

The VC said the competition is not only a means of winning, but it is a unique means of sharing new ideas and possibilities. Through this competition, students are able to expand the limits of their skills and knowledge.

He hoped that the JU CSE department would be able to show its commitment to the development of consciousness in society along with the education of technology.
