Another complaint of stalking against Prof Naadir
DU Correspondent :
An additional sexual harassment complaint has been lodged against Professor Naadir Junaid of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Dhaka University (DU), who has previously faced two similar accusations.
The latest complaint was submitted by a student from another university where Prof. Naadir Junaid had made a guest appearance as a lecturer. This grievance was directed to the DU proctor’s office for investigation.
Previously, a female student from the Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Dhaka University had accused Prof. Naadir Junaid of sexual harassment. This allegation prompted students from the department to protest and to boycott all academic activities in response. The university’s administration, reacting to the significant outcry, placed Prof. Naadir Junaid on a three-month forced leave from all academic responsibilities as a measure to address the situation.
DU Proctor Prof. Md. Maksudur Rahman confirmed the receipt of the latest complaint, stating that the allegation had initially been received via email, followed by the submission of a physical copy. The university is likely to take further actions based on the investigation’s outcome of this and previous complaints
“I have already forwarded a copy of the allegation to the Vice-chancellor office”, He added.
According to the written compliant, “NaadirJunaid was our guest faculty and as a class representative I had to keep contact with him for academic purpose. ThroughI didn’t want to maintain that kind of unusual communication as he used to call me in between 10-12 pm and tried to continue the calls for hours.”
“In the call, he, most of the time, used to talk about my and other female students’ personal information rather than discussing the academic issues. At some point it turned out into video call,” added in the written compliant.
“This kind of his approach used to embarrass me. Whenever I tried to avoid him or showed indifference to communication with him, every time I fell victim to his targeted reaction and insults in the class. And after targeting me in the class, he used to ask pardon again personally by calling me.”
The victim spelled out the whole incident of harassment in written complaint and sought judgement of it.
The victim further added, “He used to say sexually dirty talks in forms of gossip and ask me about my ‘sensitive’ body parts.
