Candidates busy begging for votes

The election of the Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) has been gaining momentum gradually with campaigning.

Along with that, the posters are covered from the alleys of the city to the bazars and roads and highways.

Candidates are busy going to the houses of the voters in the neighborhood of the city and asking for votes.

Since the allotment of the election symbol, the mayoral candidates, councilors and women candidates of reserved seats have been seen spending busy time campaigning on the streets of the city from morning till night.

It has not been left out from houses to shops, bazars and raw markets of the city. As a result, the city is full of election festivities due to the non-stop campaigning of the candidates.

Former mayor of the city is also the president of the metropolitan Awami League.

Ekramul Haque Titu said clock is a symbol of development. City dwellers will once again trust clock symbol to do the unfinished work of city development. In the last five years, it was not possible to make 100 per cent development due to the Corona epidemic first and then the Ukraine-Russia war.

If the common people give their support to me, I can complete the ongoing development work well. Along with ordinary people, Awami League leaders and workers are with me. I hope Victory will come easily.

Another candidate in symbol horse, District Awami League President Ehteshamul Alam said “I am going to the people’s side with the symbol in hand.” I am getting good response from the common people for me. Because fate of the common people was not changed as they expected. My candidacy is to give people a beautiful smart city.

Candidate for the elephant symbol, Advocate Sadekul Haque Khan Milki Toju, former president of Awami League, said that the people of the city want to see the sky, want to live in clean city, and want to solve the problem of traffic congestion. So I became a candidate in view of their demands. People will trust the elephant symbol for change. Also, he announced a 15-point manifesto in a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club recently and sought votes for the post of mayor to build a smart city.

Shahidul Islam Swapan Mondal, candidate for the plough symbol nominated by Jatiya Party, said that the plow is the symbol of Pallibandhu Ershad, the plow is the symbol of the people. People have faith in this symbol. By supporting this symbol, the city dwellers will show surprise this time.

He also said that common people want change, so for the sake of development and change in the city, the people of the city will win me by voting for the plow symbol. Deer symbol mayoral candidate agriculturist Dr. Rezaul Haque said, I am doing mass communication in every area of the city. I am getting wide support of common people. I hope voters will elect me on March 9 by voting on the deer symbol. In the past, the fortunes of ordinary people did not change as expected. If elected I will take the people with me and build a modern, smart ward.

However, several voters said that they will choose their favorite candidate based on past developments, future expectations and preferences. The last laugh at the polls, who laughs is now a matter of waiting.

On the other hand, councilor candidates of general and reserved wards have embarked on extensive campaigns along with the mayoral candidates after receiving symbols.

The total number of voters in this election is 3 lakh 36 thousand 496 people. Among them 1 lakh 63 thousand 832 men, 1 lakh 72 thousand 655 are women. Also, nine third gender voters will cast their votes in 128 centers in EVMs on March 9.

In addition to five candidates for the post of Mayor, there are 149 candidates for general councilor posts and 69 candidates for 11 reserved Women councilor posts in 33 wards of the city. However, as the council was elected unopposed in the 11th ward of the city, the election will be held in 32 wards for the post of councilor..
