12th nat’l polls: AL’s allies including JaPa feel dismay
Staff Reporter :
Allies of the ruling party Awami League feel dismay as the results of the 12th national polls held on January 7 did not go on their favour.
Leaders from Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad), Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal and Workers Party alleged these while talking with The New Nation on Wednesday.
Jatiya Party, the major ally of the AL thinks they become the big victim as its election outcome was bitter which even pushed away the party into the risk of rift further.
Most of the Japa candidates alleged that the ruling AL leaders and activists were involved in vote riggings in their constituencies. Japa contenders have showed their anger arranging protest demonstration in their party chairman’s Banani office in the capital saying the party top leaders including its Chairman and Secretary General did not do anything for preventing vote irregularities by the ruling party men in their constituencies.
They have given ultimatum for resignation of the party chairman and secretary general.
On the other hand, Japa chairman has also expelled even heavyweight leaders including its co-chairman Kazi Firoz Rashid and presidium member Sunil Shuvo Roy and others for their role on the anger inside the party.
Meanwhile, Japa Chairman GM Quader himself also expressed frustrations immediate after the January 7 election.
He said, “We may become victimised by the government in this polls where one party regime might be installed in the country.”
Not only in Japa the other allies like Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haque Inu, Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua and Workers Party General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha also alleged that the polls irregularities were taken place by the ruling Awami League men.
“I have not defeated by voters’ vote, but by vote rigging,” said Hasanul Haque Inu.
Meanwhile, he has softened his tone and said that he will talk with the alliance leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasin in this regard.
“I have not talked about the matter with the PM, but will talk soon about how the challenges ahead of the government has to overcome with strengthening the alliance,” Inu told The New Nation.
Talking to The New Nation, Dilip Barua told though he has not contested in the polls but his party men were taken part in the election and felt dismay.
He said in future his party will take decision about their role in the alliance.
