BGB seized goods worth Tk2,288cr in 2023

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized arms, ammunition, drugs and other contraband items worth Tk 2,288.66 crore during anti-smuggling drives across the country, especially in bordering areas, in 2023 (January-December).
The seized smuggled goods included 260.567-kg of gold, 246.147-kg of silver, 27, 28,205 pieces of cosmetics products, 1, 52,188 pieces of imitation ornaments, 2, 11,438 pieces of saris, 79,390 of Three-piece, 26,568 pieces of readymade garment, 29,498 cubic feet of wood, 90,613-kg of tea, 280 CNG-run auto rickshaws, 66 microbuses/ private cars, 99 pick-ups and 882 motorbikes.
The paramilitary force also seized 45 pistols, 64 weapons, 14 cocktails, 6 pieces of mortar-shells, 53 magazines, 1,246 rounds of bullets, and 27 kg gun powder.
The seized narcotics included 1, 47, 34, 774 pieces of Yaba tablets, 142.947 kg crystal meth, 330.793-kg heroin, 1,85,833 bottles of phensidyl, 3,04,749 bottles of foreign liquor, 57,899 cans of bear, 9,263 liters of local wine, 57,899 cannabis, 5, 98, 589 intoxicant injections, 65,664 bottles of banned cough syrup, 10 kg cocaine, 1,33, 58,377 pieces of different types of drugs and over 33 lakh pieces of different medicines in tablet form, said a BGB media release signed by its Public Relations Officer, Md Shariful Islam on Wednesday.
Besides, legal actions were taken against 3,900 people for their involvement in smuggling.
Earlier in 2022, BGB seized smuggled goods, arms and drugs worth over Tk1,565 crore in various drives across the country.
In 2021, smuggled goods and drugs worth Tk 1073 crore were seized by BGB.
