One hacked to death in broad daylight JL leader held

A local BNP leader was hacked to death in broad daylight allegedly by a local leader of the Jubo League in Mymensingh on Monday noon.

The deceased was identified as Haroon Or Rashid, son of late Khurshed Alam of Goalbar village of Pythal Union. Harun was the joint secretary of BNP’s Pythal union unit under Gafargaon upazila.

The killer Rubel Mia is the son of one Shahab Uddin of Neoka village
in the same union.

The murder took place in the Gayeshpur kitchen market of the union in broad daylight on Monday.

Mymensingh Police Superintendent Masum Ahmed Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to the media saying that accused Jubo League leader Rubel has been detained.

The killing took place over a personal feud between the accused and the victim. The situation is under control now, he added.

Meanwhile, the BNP has condemned the killing and demanded justice over it.
According to locals, Harun was a homoeopathic physician and ran an establishment called Feroza Homeo Hall in Gayeshpur.

Earlier, in a video footage that went viral on social media after the incident, Rubel is seen forcibly bringing Harun out of the establishment and hacking him in public at noon.

After murder, angry mobs set fire to Rubel’s house. In a bid to bring the situation under control, additional police officers have been deployed in the area.
