Dhaka-4: HC stays poll result

The High Court on Tuesday stayed the unofficial result declared by the Election Commission (EC) for the Dhaka-4 Constituency.

It also asked the EC not to publish any gazette regarding the result of the constituency till dispose of an application filed by Advocate Sanjida Khanam, an Awami League nominated candidate.

The HC at the same time directed the EC to dispose of the application within 10 days, after holding an inquiry by a probe body into the allegations raised by Sanjida Khanam that irregularities took place in 18 polling stations.

The High Court bench of Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman and Justice Md Bashir Ullah passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Sanjida Khanam.

Lawyers Shah Monjurul Hoque and others appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Sanjida Khanam.

After the election, the EC declared independent candidate Awlad Hossain as the winner in this constituency.

His symbol was Truck. He secured total 24,775 votes. Sanjida Khanam got total 22,577 votes.
