Nabiullah put on remand for train arson

A magistrate court in Dhaka on Saturday allowed the police to take main opposition party BNP’s Dhaka south unit joint convener Nabiullah Nabi on three days remand for interrogation in a case filed over Friday’s arson attack on the Benapole Express train in Gopibagh area of the capital that left four people dead.
Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu passed the order after sub-inspector Ashraful Islam of the detective branch of police produced him before the court, seeking the court’s permission to take him on seven days remand in this connection.
Opposing the plea of taking police custody, defence lawyer submitted a petition seeking bail for Nabiullah, but the court rejected the petition after hearing.
Earlier on the day, the chief of the Detective Branch of police and also the additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Harun-or-Rashid, said at a press briefing that eight people, including Nabiullah Nabi were arrested in connection with the arson attack on the Benapole Express train.
The other arrestees are Jubo Dal activists Mohammad Mansur Alam, Rasel, Salauddin, Kabir Hossain, Delwar, Hasan, and Iqbal Hossain Swapan.
