Vegetable pricey again in Ishwardi

Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :

The price of vegetables has increased again in the wholesale and retail markets of Ishwardi. Buyers were very dissatisfied with the price of vegetables throughout the year.

Consumers heaved a sigh of relief as the prices of vegetables started to come down amid the unbridled rise in daily commodities.

But suddenly the prices of all kinds of vegetables in the market have increased from Tk 10 to Tk 30 for the last three days. Some vegetables have doubled in price.

Vendors say the prices have come down mainly due to increased supply of vegetables in advance of winter.

In the meantime, the supply of advance vegetables has reduced in the market. Imports of second-stage winter vegetables into the market are likely to reduce prices.

On Tuesday (December 19), it was seen that the prices of all kinds of winter vegetables, starting from potatoes, have increased again.

Old potatoes of 50 taka per kg are being sold at 60 taka and new potatoes of 60 taka are being sold at 70 taka. The price of brinjal has increased by Tk 20 per kg and is being sold at Tk 50. 30 taka per kg papaya at 50 taka, 10 taka radish is being sold at 20 taka per kg, 30 taka beans per kg at 60 taka, cauliflower from 30 taka to 50 taka, tied cabbage has increased from 25 taka to 40 taka per kg. Cucumber has increased from Tk 40 to Tk 60 per kg. The prices of sweet pumpkin, gourd, potal, red leafy greens, data leafy greens, spinach and raw bananas have also increased.

Amirul Islam, a private employee who came to the market, said that the prices of all kinds of vegetables were too high before. The prices of all kinds of winter vegetables fell in the market due to importation.

Meanwhile, the price is supposed to decrease further.

But the price did not decrease and increased again. If the price of vegetables also increases like other daily commodities, then how will the common people fare?

Raihan Kabir, a garment worker of Ishwardi EPZ, said that starting from groceries, all kinds of fish and meat markets have increased prices.

In the meantime, we could buy and eat vegetables as the price had come down. But I see the price of vegetables has increased again.

Yunus, a vegetable seller, said that the prices of all types of vegetables started to decrease during the winter season. In the last three days, the price of vegetables has increased from Tk 10 to Tk 30 per kg.

However, local prices fell rapidly due to problems in transportation of produce due to strikes and blockades.

Now no one obeys the blockade.

Therefore, a large amount of vegetables are being shipped to different areas of the country every day. Moreover, early winter vegetables are at the end.

In fact, the price of vegetables in the market of the whole winter season will be low.
