Technical glitch halts production at RPP for the 8th time
Staff Reporter :
Power generation at the Rampal Power Plant (RPP) in Bagerhat has come to a standstill for the eighth time on Monday following a technical glitch.
The shutdown of the power plant comes just after a month when production was temporarily halted at the power plant due to ‘mechanical issues’ in early November.
Production at the Rampal Thermal Power Plant has come to a standstill due to a mechanical failure.
The development comes just after a month when production was temporarily halted at the power plant due to what officials said were ‘mechanical issues’ in early November.
Confirming the matter on Monday a Bangladesh India Partnership Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL) official informed that this time the plant has shut over impulse tube leakage. Production has remained suspended since 10:30am.
With the latest disruption, production at Rampal Power Plant, which began commercial operation in December 2022, has halted for the eighth time.
Rampal Power Plant experienced force outages several times for different reasons after its first unit starts production last year.
Recently, the commercial operation was formally launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
Earlier on April 15 this year the production at Rampal Thermal Power Plant was halted due to mechanical failure.
The Rampal Thermal Power Plant has been shut down six times in seven and a half months since it was commissioned on December 17 last year.
The power plant was first shut down on January 14, followed by April 15, April 23, June 30, July 16, and July 30.
The plant, which was initiated as a joint venture between India and Bangladesh in 2010, has been a significant endeavor aimed at boosting the region’s energy infrastructure.
An agreement between the Bangladesh Power Development Board and India’s NTPC Ltd was signed on 29 January2012.
This agreement paved the way for the establishment of BIFPCL, under which the construction of the 1320 MW Maitri Super Thermal Power Project (RAMPAL) commenced.
