Staff Reporter :
The main opposition party-BNP standing committee member Begum Selima Rahman on Sunday said that the party men along with the people will stay in the streets until the Awami League government is ousted.

She made the remark while participating in a human chain programme in the capital.

BNP formed the human chain in the capital, marking the international Human Rights Day.

BNP leaders and activists along with the family members of the victims of enforced disappearance and political killings participated in the programme in front of the National Press Club.

The human chain began formally with the recitation from the holy Quran at about 10:55am with BNP standing committee member Selima Rahman in the chair.

Selima Rahman said, government’s agencies have arrested more than 20 thousands of the BNP men across the country only for holding a lopsided polls to keep Sheikh Hasina in power.

She said all political parties from leftists and right wings have taken to the streets to oust this undemocratic government.

The BNP leader asked all to stay in the streets and make the ongoing movement strong to oust this government to pave way for holding a free and inclusive election.

Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists started gathering in the area since morning to attend the programme amid the heavy presence of law enforcers.

Besides, all district units of the opposition party are also set to observe a similar programme on the same day to highlight the issue of human rights violations in Bangladesh, said the party.

‘Mayer Dak’, a platform of the families of the victims of enforced disappearance allegedly committed by government agencies, organised a rally together with the victims’ family in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Saturday.

The International Human Rights Day is being observed in the country on Sunday as elsewhere across the globe.
The theme of this year’s day is ‘Freedom, Equality and Justice for All’.
