Though supply increased, price of new potato, onion not decreased

New potatoes and chopped onions produced in the country have arrived in the market.

Still, the reins of potato-onion prices are not being pulled.

Due to the impact of imports, the prices have decreased slightly but have started to rise again.

In the last 4-5 days, the price of potato has increased by Tk 10 per kg and onion up to Tk 20-30 per kg.

Local traders said that due to the decrease in imports, the prices have affected the market.

LC cannot be opened due to dollar crisis.

Besides, many people are not importing anymore because of the fear that the price will decrease if the supply of new potatoes and onions increases in the market.

Due to which the daily commodity potato-onion prices have increased due to reduced supply in the market compared to the demand.

New potatoes have started appearing in the market for about a week.

As a result, the demand for old potatoes has decreased.

In the meantime, chopped onions have also appeared in the market.

It has been seen in other times that the prices of new potatoes and onions come down in the market.

But this time a different picture was seen.

Even though new potatoes and onions have been added, the prices have not been affected in the market.

Ishwardi market is seen, old potatoes are being sold at 50 to 55 taka per kg.

Four or five days ago, the price was 50 taka.

However, earlier the price of potato had touched a record 60-70 taka. Besides, new potatoes are being sold at the rate of Tk 60 to 65 per kg.

Ripe new onions are available in the market.

Retail traders are selling at Tk 110 to Tk 120 per kg.

The new onion also could not have much impact on the market.

Earlier, the country old onions were sold at retail level at Tk 130 to Tk 135 per kg. After importing Indian onion, old country onion is sold at Tk 100-110 and Indian onion is sold at Tk 90-100.

Desi murikata new onions, Indian onions and large size onions imported from China have been seen in the market.

The price of old onion has increased again to Tk 130 per kg. Indian onion is being sold at Tk 100 and Chinese onion at Tk 90 per kg.

Sanjay Sarkar, the wholesaler of onion, said that the onion market has been increasing for a few days.

One pall of desi murikata poojas weighing five kg is being sold at Tk 490-520.

The price of 5 kg of domestic old onion is Tk 600-630, Indian onion is Tk 470-480 and Chinese onion is being sold at Tk 430.

In other words, the price of onion has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 30 per kg.

Potatoes in the old store were sold at 45 to 46 taka a few days ago, but now they have increased to 48-50 taka.
