Bus torched in Gulistan, 2 hurt in cocktail blast

A passenger bus was set on fire by unidentified miscreants in city’s Gulistan area on Monday noon.

A Tanjil Paribahan was set ablaze in Gulistan’s Zero Point area, near the Awami League office, at around 2:23pm, said the Fire Service and Civil Defence media cell.

Two firefighting units from Siddique Bazar Fire Station managed to douse the blaze.

A witness said: “I suddenly saw a bus stopping and the passengers frantically getting out of the vehicle.

I tried to put out the fire, and then the fire service arrived.”

Meanwhile, just an hour after the incident, at least two on-duty traffic police sergeants were injured after a crude bomb exploded in the same area.

The incident took place near Paltan traffic police box at around 3:44pm.

One of the injured was identified as Sergeant Rezaul, and the identity of the other officer could not be known yet.

Earlier on Sunday night, Miscreants set fire on a passenger bus and vandalized another on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Akbar Shah and Dampara areas of Chittagong.

Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defence Warehouse Inspector Shamsul Alam said that two fire service units went to the spot but the fire was extinguished before they reached. No one was injured in this incident.

Meanwhile, a total of eight buses were set on fire across the country in 24 hours from 6:00am on Sunday to 6:00am on Monday.
